Angel tattoo designs are gaining popularity

Gambar
Angel tattoos are probably the most common designs for women worldwide. Angel tattoos can be versatile and may be used to create unique designs in a lot of different ways. Angels are thought to be one of the most beautiful heavenly creatures and represent different ideas to different individuals. Professional tattoo studios typically have a number of angel tattoos to pick from and each might possibly be altered into whatever design you'd like. Angels have represented beauty, purity, and spirituality in several different cultures throughout history. The character of a angel has often been employed to symbolize someone's transformation to a higher plane of existence, either physically, mentally, or spiritually. Most angel tattoos have a great amount of detail so the attractive nature associated with the design and style and the intricate aspects of a design can match the loveliness associated with the angels which have been depicted in literature and art. Angel tattoos are easily...

Hannah's Floral Sleeve (2019 NY Empire State Tattoo Expo)

Gambar
When you go to a big tattoo show, like last weekend's 2019  Empire State Tattoo Expo  ( @nyempirestatetattooexpo ), you see a lot of big show-stopper pieces, but I also love the smaller things that jump out at me, like the sleeve of flowers I spotted on Hannah:  Hannah's sleeve consists of at least six different varieties of flowers, including peonies , violets , black-eyed Susans , daisies , lavender , forget-me-nots , and lilies-of-the-valley . She credited the work to Rebeka Chase ( @rebekatattoos ) out of Brass & Briar Studios ( @brassandbriar ) in Portland, Maine. Thanks to Hannah for sharing her floral sleeves with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2019 Tattoosday. Nicole's Stunning Tattoos

Gambar
Last summer, while strolling in Battery Park during a lunch break, I met Nicole, from São Paulo, Brazil. She was kind enough to let me take photos of the beautiful tattoo work she has running from her arm up to her neck:  The black and gray floral work seems to be growing out of a face: I didn't get much detail from her, but did find out her artist is Lucas Andrade  ( @lucasandradetattoo ) in São Paulo. Muito obrigado to Nicole for sharing her lovely tattoos with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2019 Tattoosday. Four Tattoos from Halee Kirkwood (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Halee Kirkwood, who sent us a quartet of tattoos to admire, including this one: Halee credits this to  Lana Bosak  ( @lanalikescats ) at  Tailorbird Tattoo  ( @tailorbirdtattoo ), one of many amazing Minneapolis tattoo parlors. She notes: "I was drawn to this raven on an antler as a poet who writes a lot about death, grief, and scavenging. Ravens are incredibly intelligent birds with the ability to adapt and problem-solve to an astounding capacity. Even when it seems that a thing has rotten, there might be nourishment to be found there. I try to embody the strength and cleverness of the raven every day." They also sent this cool cat tattoo: Halee tells us: "This little kitty was a flash tattoo I snatched up in the summer of 2018. I was feeling frustrated with cars in the Twin Cities - I am an avid city biker and have had more than my fair share of cars driving dangerously and close to me when I'm in a bike lane, and felt a kinship with the f...

Theresa Senato Edwards Returns to the Tattooed Poets Project

Gambar
Today's tattooed poet is a long-time supporter and friend of the Tattooed Poets Project, Theresa Senato Edwards . Theresa first contributed back in 2010, launching our second installment of tattooed poets. Her contribution can be re-visited here . She has graciously shared four of her "newest" tattoos: She tells us her "calf tattoo has grown and finally has become what I had really wanted from the start," adding that "the others [below] all connect to each other and the calf tattoo in some way." Theresa tells us about these two: "The finger tattoo is extra special to me. My tattoo artist and I designed it on the spot, and I wanted it on my right index finger b/c it was always a bit painful to wear a ring on that finger b/c of an infection I got after minor surgery when I was a teen. Now I wear something simple, one-of-a-kind, beautiful, and permanent on that finger--pain free!" She also shared this lovely piece: Theresa is a huge fan of her ...

Sonia Greenfield's Passionflower (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Today's Tattooed Poet is Sonia Greenfield , who I met last fall at the Best American Poetry 2018  launch reading. She subsequently sent us a few photos of one of her tattoo experiences: Sonia told us the following story of her  passionflower tattoo: "I got this tattoo at the Sacred Rose  (@ sacredrosetattoo ), which used to be in The Mission in San Francisco. My tattoo artist was Bryan Randolph  ( @bryanrandolph ), and I feel so lucky to have had him do my artwork. This tattoo-- its bold lines and strong color-- have stood the test of time. The tattoo looks as fresh as a new blossom, still, yet it is twenty years old. Bryan is now tattooing at Spider Murphy's  ( @spidermurphystattoo ) in San Rafael if you're in the Bay Area and looking for new ink. I can't recommend him enough if bold is your aesthetic. I chose a passionflower for a few reasons-- I like the intricacy and architecture of this flower, its colors and textures. I like it as a symbol for passi...

Renée Ashley's Calla Lilies (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Renée Ashley , who shared this lovely floral tattoo with us:  Renee gave us a little background on this piece: "It took me a long time to decide what was right and calla lilies were exactly right. I love it. And I had it put where I could see it— it’s both in memoriam and memento mori. I have this idea that white callas were on my father’s coffin, but that’s almost certainly not true. But it should be. Callas are the most elegant flower; that curve is sensual and enticing. I had the tat done when I was sixty-five (it took me five years to decide what I wanted), by Mike at Evolvink Studios  ( @evolvink ) in Morristown, New Jersey." Renee also shared the following poem from her book, Basic Heart : THE SUICIDES I won’t name them for you, or count them, each one a door, and the house fallen down. A wall is a small, simple history. And falling is everywhere. Imagine the hinged eyes close or are closed—no, sleep is nothing like the death. Still, no on...

Sandra's Platform Bloom

Gambar
Last summer, I met Sandra on a subway platform in south Brooklyn. She shared this colorful flower: We only spoke briefly, but Sandra explained that she wanted a flower that was somewhat "non-traditional," adding that it reminded her a little of a Rose of Sharon , which makes sense, as a rose of Sharon is often attributed to different flowers, and this one recalls several types. She credited the work to Jon Jon  ( @jonjontattoo ) from Triple Diamond Tattoo  ( @triplediamondtattoo ) in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn. A peek at Jon Jon's Instagram shows that this was the first part of a floral half-sleeve that he recently added to: Via @JonJonTattoo Instagram  Thanks to Sandra for sharing this lovely flower with us here on Tattoosday! An Award-Winning Crane by CJ Tattoo

Gambar
This past weekend I went to the Summer Vibe tattoo show at the Nassau Coliseum and saw a lot of amazing tattoos. One of the most impressive ones was this gigantic thigh/hip piece on Ling ( @lingjin_tattoo ): This stunning crane with peonies won "Best Color Tattoo" on day 2 of the show. I was fortunate enough to get to take a photo and meet the artist, CJ ( @cj.tattoo ), of CJ Tattoo in the East Village, NYC. Definitely check out CJ Tattoo's site and follow him in Instagram. His work is amazing! Thanks to Ling and CJ for sharing this incredible artwork with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2018 Tattoosday. Kayleigh's Chamomile

Gambar
Last fall, while riding up in the elevator at work, I struck up a conversation with Kayleigh, who was sporting this cool tattoo: Kayleigh identified it as lavender chamomile and credited her sister Megan  ( @stackofpancake ), telling me it was only Megan's second official tattoo. Thanks to Kayleigh for sharing her cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2018 Tattoosday.
