Angel tattoo designs are gaining popularity

Gambar
Angel tattoos are probably the most common designs for women worldwide. Angel tattoos can be versatile and may be used to create unique designs in a lot of different ways. Angels are thought to be one of the most beautiful heavenly creatures and represent different ideas to different individuals. Professional tattoo studios typically have a number of angel tattoos to pick from and each might possibly be altered into whatever design you'd like. Angels have represented beauty, purity, and spirituality in several different cultures throughout history. The character of a angel has often been employed to symbolize someone's transformation to a higher plane of existence, either physically, mentally, or spiritually. Most angel tattoos have a great amount of detail so the attractive nature associated with the design and style and the intricate aspects of a design can match the loveliness associated with the angels which have been depicted in literature and art. Angel tattoos are easily...

A Trio of Tattoos from Sumita Chakraborty (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Sumita Chakraborty , who sent us three tattoos, and a poem, to boot! Let's check them out: This tattoo, a black and gray piece featuring an arrow and a lark, was inked by Javier Rivera ( @jriveratattoo ) at Live Free Tattoo  ( @livefreetattoo ) in Atlanta. Sumita tells us: "I got this tattoo after I finished my first poetry collection, Arrow , which was also after one of my first mentors, Lucie Brock-Broido , died. The arrow is splitting the lark (in an homage to Emily Dickinson ), and the flowers are larkspur as well as, in an homage to Lucie, wisteria . It’s on my right forearm as I’m right handed." Next is this tattoo of a moose: This piece was also done at Live Free Tattoo, but by artist Alan Berg ( @alanbergtattoo ). Sumita elaborates: "It’s a moose, in honor of Elizabeth Bishop’s poem , both because I love the poem and because it took twenty years for Bishop to get it right, which is one of my favorite compositional stories ever. I...

Sara Eliza Johnson and Paradin's Emblem (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Sarah Eliza Johnson , who sent along this photo: Sarah explains: "This tattoo is an emblem from Claude Paradin's Devises Heroïques , published in 1551. I spent a long time deciding on a tattoo and vacillated a lot. I eventually settled on this one because (aside from the aesthetics) it spoke to me while I was facing and processing some really heavy stuff, and I realized that I saw my past, present, and future in these birds struck through with an arrow--each mortally wounded through the breast, but not dead, still flying with their heads lifted. The tattoo was done by Jeny Ann Kennedy  ( @jenyannkennedy ) at Evergreen Tattoo Company   ( @evergreentattoocompany ) in Fairbanks, AK." Sarah also sent us the following poem, which is from her book Bone Map ( Milkweed 2014) Archipelago: The Paradise of Birds How can an incorporeal light burn corporeally in a corporeal creature? — The Voyage of Saint Brendan I come to a series of lights in the fog....

Arrows on the W Train (Tattoosday Plays the Alphabet Game)

Gambar
In case you're just joining in, I have been recounting a day in August when I played the Alphabet Game, spending the day attempting to go through the NYC subway system, in alphabetical order, finding a tattoo on every train line. You can catch up on the progress (or see the whole adventure) here . I had surpassed last year's attempt by successfully finding a tattoo on the S train and set my sights on the W. In case you were wondering, there's no U train, the T train was discontinued in the 1960s and the V train only ran from 2001-2010.  At 2:25 PM, I got a W train headed toward Whitehall Street. Between 23rd and 14th, I met Mark, who had these cool arrows tattooed on his right arm: Mark had to hop off at 14th Street, so we had a very brief conversation, but he did manage to tell me the arrows represented strength, and he credited Daniel Delgado ( @danieltattoos ) with the work. Daniel currently works out of Brooklyn's Hand of Glory Tattoo ( @handofglorytattoo ). Shortl...
