Angel tattoo designs are gaining popularity

Gambar
Angel tattoos are probably the most common designs for women worldwide. Angel tattoos can be versatile and may be used to create unique designs in a lot of different ways. Angels are thought to be one of the most beautiful heavenly creatures and represent different ideas to different individuals. Professional tattoo studios typically have a number of angel tattoos to pick from and each might possibly be altered into whatever design you'd like. Angels have represented beauty, purity, and spirituality in several different cultures throughout history. The character of a angel has often been employed to symbolize someone's transformation to a higher plane of existence, either physically, mentally, or spiritually. Most angel tattoos have a great amount of detail so the attractive nature associated with the design and style and the intricate aspects of a design can match the loveliness associated with the angels which have been depicted in literature and art. Angel tattoos are easily...

Hello, Dalí! Bryan's Surrealist Sleeve

Gambar
Last summer, I met Bryan on the Rector Street subway platform. He was kind enough to share a full sleeve of tattoos inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí : This section is inspired by The Burning Giraffe (1937): Then, there's this skull: This was based on a poster Dalí designed for an anti-venereal disease campaign during World War II, dubbed Vagina Dentata : Of course, everyone is familiar with this Dalí image, from his famous painting The Persistence of Memory : The bleeding roses in this tattoo are inspired by this painting: And then there is this last skull image: This piece is based on Dalí's The Face of War : Bryan credited all of the tattoo work to Chris Mason ( @chrismasontattoo ) at Live Wire Arts ( @livewirearts ) in West Islip, New York. Thanks to Bryan for sharing all of this amazing work with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2019 Tattoosday. The Stories of Raquel's Tattoos

Gambar
A couple years ago, at a family bar mitzvah in Florida, my wife suggested I talk to Raquel, her aunt's sister, about her tattoos. Raquel, an attorney in Puerto Rico, was kind enough to let me take some photos and tell me about her work. Her first tattoo was this rose on her back: Raquel related the following story: "I was always impressed by women with tattoos because tattoos meant that these women were ... strong women ... at that time when I was a little girl - I'm not going to tell you my age - I'm very old ... women that did tattoos ... were women that came out from jail, and I remember ... these women, they impressed me so much, strong with personality and things like that. In those days, having a tattoo was bad for women and for men. So finally, when I'm like fifty, having a tattoo was fashion, for both men and women, but particularly for women, so I saw it as an opportunity to be able to have my own tattoo ... I used to do triathlons, I was very heavy into t...

Swim When It Hurts

Gambar
I met Marcy on a subway platform in lower Manhattan back in September 2017. She had a lot of work on her arm and indulged me as I took quite a few photos. This building is part of the Oceanic Hotel on Star Island  in Isle of Shoals, New Hampshire, where she used to vacation when she was younger. Below this image is the phrase "swim when it hurts," which reminds Marcy about overcoming things that are difficult: These tattoos, part of a whole nautical sleeve, help her "center herself." This Cape Cod-style lighthouse helps her find her way in life. Marcy credited her work to Becca Genné-Bacon, who tattooed her when she was at Hand of Glory Tattoo ( @handofglorytattoo )in Brooklyn. Becca has since moved on to Kings Avenue Tattoo ( @kingsavetattoo ) in Manhattan. I love  Becca's work, and follow her on Instagram at @beccagennebacon . Thanks to Marcy for sharing her awesome work with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2019 Tattoosday. If you are seeing this on an...

A Rose on the N Train (Tattoosday Plays the Alphabet Game)

Gambar
We took a day off for fall yesterday, but we're still playing the Alphabet Game, my one-day journey through the subway system, in alphabetical order. Need to catch up? The whole journey is recapped, A through M  here . After the M, I hopped on a D to 34th Street where I could switch to an N train. At 12:47 PM, I board an uptown N at 34th Street. Eight minutes later, I meet Fatima, who shares this rose tattoo: Fatima told me little, just that this was done at a shop in the Bronx. Thanks to Fatima for sharing her rose with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2018 Tattoosday. Skull Time (2018 Empire State Tattoo Expo)

Gambar
I posted this on Instagram ( @tattoosday ) last week when attending the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo ( @nyempirestatetattooexpo ), but I wanted to get it up on the official Tattoosday site as well. I never caught the name of the woman who got this on her thigh, but she was kind enough to allow me to share it: This piece was freshly-inked by Zach Smith ( @profet_ink ) from Profet Ink Tattoo Studio in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. You can watch Zach at work on his YouTube channel here . I like the combination/juxtaposition of the skull, the rose, and the Roman numerals of time. It's just a really cool design and masterfully executed. Thanks to Zach and his client for sharing this cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2018 Tattoosday.
