Angel tattoo designs are gaining popularity

Gambar
Angel tattoos are probably the most common designs for women worldwide. Angel tattoos can be versatile and may be used to create unique designs in a lot of different ways. Angels are thought to be one of the most beautiful heavenly creatures and represent different ideas to different individuals. Professional tattoo studios typically have a number of angel tattoos to pick from and each might possibly be altered into whatever design you'd like. Angels have represented beauty, purity, and spirituality in several different cultures throughout history. The character of a angel has often been employed to symbolize someone's transformation to a higher plane of existence, either physically, mentally, or spiritually. Most angel tattoos have a great amount of detail so the attractive nature associated with the design and style and the intricate aspects of a design can match the loveliness associated with the angels which have been depicted in literature and art. Angel tattoos are easily...

Allison Wilkins, an Octopus and a Poem in Greek (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Allison Wilkins, who sent us a couple of her tattoos: Allison explained the origins of this octopus: "The octopus tattoo was drawn by my artist friend, Lib Hedgepath, and inked by tattoo artist Ethan ( @ethan_franklin_jrt ) at James River Tattoo  ( @jamesrivertattoo ) (Lynchburg, VA, 1337 Main Street). I got the tattoo in 2013, a transitional year for me: between the acceptance of and publication of my first book, Girl Who ; this was also the year I got divorced. The octopus became a kind of totem animal for me, a sea beast that was highly intelligent and adaptable (I’m a Pisces). Also, it represents the place, Greece, where I eventually found a second home. But at the time I got my tattoo, I just associated Greece with starting over and living authentically." Then there is this piece on her back: Allison notes this is a poem by Titos Patríkios  and it: "... was inked by James River Tattoo in 2012. For me, it marked falling in love with a place:...

Rage Hezekiah's Octopus (The Tattooed Poets Project)

Gambar
Our next tattooed poet is Rage Hezekiah , who sent us this photo of her tattoo: Rage tells us: This is the only tattoo I've designed on my own, and I got it about 11 years ago at Black and Blue Tattoo  ( @blackandbuetattoo ) in San Francisco. The artist, Micah, no longer works there, but it was only my second tattoo and Micah was very comforting. Octopi have had a meaningful presence in my life for quite some time, and I like to think that all their arms are for holding. Octopi remind me that I'm held. Rage also sent us the following poem, "Psilocybin," which she notes Is about the only time she tried hallucinogens. She added, "My experience that day solidified my need to put this tattoo on my body where I could see it every day."  PSILOCYBIN You and I ride our bikes to Ipswich River and I dispense the only advice I’ve been given. Just let them take you, I say, placing a small handful of caps in your palm. We sit on the muddy shore eating tuna, anticipating ...

Christopher Bakken's Special Octopus on The Tattooed Poets Project

Gambar
Today's tattooed poet is Christopher Bakken , who shared this photo with us: Christopher's tattoo has a great origin story: "The original line drawing for my tattoo was done by famed cookbook author, chef, and artist Mollie Katzen (best known for The Moosewood Cookbook ) who kindly agreed to fashion some illustrations for my 2013 culinary memoir Honey, Olives, Octopus . It was the first drawing she sent me in the initial stages of production and I liked it so much I decided it should be with me permanently.  It was inked by Mike of Mad Mike's Tattoos  ( @mad_mikes_tattoo_n_piercing ) in Meadville, Pennsylvania.  The tattoo is a daily reminder of my relationship to Greece (the real and imagined landscape of so much of my poetry) and specifically the Aegean Sea. I spend my summers on the island of Thasos , which means for most of the year the tattoo reminds me of my painful distance from that place. As a cook, I believe in being in close contact with the source...

Total Eclipse of the Art

Gambar
Back on August 21, 2017, I met Michelle near Bowling Green in lower Manhattan. Everyone was out experiencing the solar eclipse , and I started talking to her about her cool tattoos. An artist she only identified as Alex from the Bronx, was responsible for this work on her arm: She also credited Giovanny from Rebel Ink Tattoos ( @rebel_ink_tattoo ) in Queens with the following work on her leg: Thanks to Michelle for sharing her work with us here on Tattoosday! An Octopus On The Platform (Alphabet Game Interlude)

Gambar
For the past week on Tattoosday, we've been playing the Alphabet Game (see the recap here ), as we travel the subways seeking out tattoos, going in alphabetical order. We have previously seen work on the A, B, C, D, E and F trains, so next up was the G train. 10:28 AM: I take the F to Carroll Street in Brooklyn where I plan to switch for the G. It's my first real break of the day, since the G is a pretty isolated line in Brooklyn. I've managed to avoid any intermediary lines between trains, but once I do the G, I have to take it back to the F and then take the F to the J. There's a way to get off/exit and walk to the J, but that takes too far out of the way to my liking. 10:36 AM: On a G, missed a shot at a Family Guy sleeve, considering switching back to a Queens-bound G. Switched at 4th Avenue/9th Street and, while waiting for another G, met Dan on the platform, who had a tattoo too good to pass up: This amazing black and gray octopus on the back of Dan's leg was ...

Angela, a Peacock and Sisterly Feathers

Gambar
Today is my sister Alicia's birthday and, although she doesn't have any tattoos, she loves peacocks, and this story involves a sister, so it seemed an appropriate post for the occasion. Back in May, I was in Herndon, Virginia, for a work training and I was hanging out with one of my colleagues, Angela, who has lots of ink, including this lovely peacock and pair of butterflies on her back: Angela credited Daniel Baker ( @danielbakertattoos ) from Tattoorolo in Corning, New York, with this lovely work. She also has the lovely feather on her leg: Angela explained first about the feather, which she got inked up n Rochester: "My sister and I were getting matching tattoos and ... we went with a feather idea and she didn't care what feather and I said well I'd really like just a peacock feather.   Since I got the peacock tattoo on my back ... people are inundating me with peacock stuff, family and friends ... I like it. So I was like I just want an individual feather . S...

Taylor's Undersea Tattoo

Gambar
Last month, I spotted Taylor shopping at a local drug store in Brooklyn, on a particularly warm day. She had this cool thigh tattoo and was kind enough to share it with us:  Taylor explained, "I've just always loved fish, mermaids, the ocean," noting that the mermaid  is "purple for my grandma, because that's her favorite color." She also added, "we've got Hank from Finding Dory up in there." Those unfamiliar with the film should not Hank is the octopus. Taylor credited the work to Erica Flannes ( @ericaflannes ) at Red Rocket Tattoo  ( @redrockettattoo ) in Manhattan. Thanks to Taylor for sharing her cool undersea thigh tattoo with us here on Tattoosday! This entry is ©2018 Tattoosday.
