Matt's Signs Point the Way

My friend Matt moved to Baltimore a couple years ago and shared this tattoo with me after he got it last summer:


This piece recalls the stack of signs that was often seen in episodes of the TV series M*A*S*H.


Matt wanted to pay homage to the show - not only was it a staple for a lot of us growing up, but it was one of those shows that aired in reruns constantly, back before streaming and binge-watching television was a thing. Without going into too much detail, Matt was laid up for a spell in the early 2000s M*A*S*H helped him through a difficult time - it was "all I ever watched on TV" then, he told me.

He credited the artist Rudy, from Skull N Bones Tattoo, in Toledo, Ohio, with the work. He loves what he did with shading. The Boston sign from the original has been removed and replaced with Matt's new home, Baltimore.

An idea... (or: Economous Musgrove Chapter 1 Part 1)

I just had a crazy thought: I have an m/s that has not gone anywhere for a long while so perhaps I could share it with you all 500? 1000? words at a time. Perhaps feedback might get it moving? Perhaps it might be cool to let you all roam the Half-Continent again? It will be un-edited, first-drafty (draughty - holes in it, get it?) , and like un-spellchecked (not a real verb) but what do you think? Still here! Still here!

Just in case you thought I had shuffled off somewhere, I am still about, honest, being very preoccupied about editing (actually a major rewrite - you should see all the green pen scribbled over each page, the inserted pages with even more green scribblings) and slack about blogging. I heard once that you need to post at least once a week to be considered a real blog, so I don't know where that leaves us... Just thought I would acknowledge that "clede" (a corruption of Mr Hranac's 'cledu' verificon word) meaning a country dance, and most likely "verger" (coined by Alyosha's daughter) meaning a builder of fortifications, might well have a place in the Half-Continent. 'Tis a bit perplexing about how such things work though; can I even have them to use? They are other people's stuff after all. I could sit here and just plunder you all and never have to come up with my own stuff - though where is the fun in that...! endless invention is ent...
